Prevent Driving While Drunk

November 12, 2011 Posted by www.wojt-bud.com

According to statistics, over 90% of all UK drivers consider that drinking and driving of alcohol is extremely hazardous, and recognize the dangers of driving when drunk. The problem with this statistic is that it means that over two million UK drivers ought to believe that drunk driving isn’t harmful. This couldn’t be more wrong, every year on British roads 3000 to 3500 folks are killed in drink related accidents.

Newspaper headlines commonly claim that the numbers are falling, although it is accurate that over the last few years the numbers have fallen, that’s only compared to record highs. When you take a peek at the first time the figure was recorded back in 1979 only 1600 individuals had been killed, half of today’s figures. Consequently, it appears challenging to argue that these are ‘good’ figures and numbers of deaths are sinking.

The UK legal limit for driving with alcohol inside your system is 80mg of alcohol to 100ml of blood. It doesn’t necessarily follow that should you body has less than this limit you are safe to drive. Within the US, many states have successfully prosecuted drivers who had been below the legal limit but still deemed to be unfit to drive.

Even within the late 70′s if the police stopped a driver who was drunk, they often did not have breathalyzers offered. And would also take an attitude of the driver was ‘not too drunk’ and let them walk the remainder of the way residence. That attitude has vanished totally; police now by and large seek convictions for drivers who are even a tiny fraction over the limit.

In the event you pick out to drink and drive the law now has stiff penalties, mixed with a strong will to make an instance of, not just some, but all offenders. Driving above the limit carries a 12 month ban, a 5,000 fine, along with a sentence of up to six months in jail, and that is for the 1st offence. Anybody who thinks it’s a superb concept to refuse a breath test faces the same penalties.

An endorsement on your license for a drink-driving is not taking away for eleven years, that indicates for eleven years if the police pull you over they will almost certainly breathalyze you, on the basis that you’ve got a history of disregarding the dangers of driving when drunk.

Insurance firms would prefer take on a seventeen year old with a sports vehicle than somebody with a drink driving conviction as they think about the risk to be lower. This indicates premiums might be numerous times what you paid before the conviction. After a second offence, insurance is nearly impossible to obtain at any price.

Drunk drivers who killed someone else, employed to typically come under the careless driving laws, which carried a maximum penalty of a 2,500 fine. The new offence of causing death by careless driving, while under the influence of drink or drugs, is slightly stricter with a maximum disqualification of two years, and a fourteen year prison sentence.

Drinking and driving is now totally socially unacceptable, with not just the courts frowning on such behavior. Pals and neighbours can ostracize offenders, employers have no curiosity about taking on convicted drink drivers, and even though they do, their insurers will typically block the employment. The days of casual drink driving are well and really over with the vast majority of folks recognizing the perils associated with driving when drunk on British roads.

Mobile Phone Apps That Prevent Texting While Driving

October 5, 2011 Posted by www.wojt-bud.com

Last month my nineteen year old niece was driving home from cheerleading practice at UCLA. She was looking at her iPhone text messages instead of focusing on the road ahead of her. She said she only looked away for a few seconds and then – bam! She slammed into the vehicle in front of her while driving at over 50 MPH. She broke her right ankle and had bruises on her face due to the impact from the air bag.

Now she will be on crutches for her first big sorority dance and will be sidelined from cheer practice for at least twelve weeks. Unfortunately accidents like this happen every day. Sometimes drivers aren’t as lucky as she was, as her injuries could have been much, much worse.

This accident demonstrates the real dangers of texting while driving. We all know texting and checking emails while driving is very dangerous behavior. Yet many people take their safety for granted and continue to routinely check their email and text messages while behind the wheel.

Even though texting while driving is risky, occasionally situations happen in which you need to send a text message while driving. Like if you are running late for a meeting or stuck in traffic. Plus, as the mother of two teenagers, I know how challenging it is to get teenagers to put the phone down for even a few minutes.

Although I do not want to encourage texting while driving, here are some apps that will make texting while driving safer:

MotoSpeak will read out loud your text messages through the headset as they arrive. When a text message arrives, the Bluetooth device will read it aloud and ask if the user wants to dictate a reply, no screen-touching required.

Otter is a simple, GPS based texting auto reply app. Otter is able to halt text messages, and has no recurring monthly charges.

Drive Smart Plus automatically detects when a handset user is driving and sets the phone into driving mode. Once this service is activated, it disables most texting and calling features to the handset while the car is in motion.

iZup has a time-delay feature to account for stop lights, stop signs, and heavy traffic. It also lets you unblock a single application, such as your GPS navigation.

TxTBlocker lets you set up “Safe Zones” to disable or limit functions. For instance, a parent can block a child from sending texts from school or receive a text if the child exceeds a certain speed limit.

ZoomSafer lets you send outbound calls via the one-touch voice dialer and receive inbound calls through hands-free options. A premium plan lets you hear and respond to email by voice.

Vlingo combines voice to text technology with its “intent engine” to help you quickly complete your desired action. Simply speak to your phone or type a command through the ActionBar to get just about anything done while on the go.

With Textecution, if a passenger wants to use the texting features of the phone, the parent who registered the device has to provide permission via text message.
